DRIES VAN NOTEN

Born in Antwerp in 1958. From early childhood, he was in the environment of the family tradition, textiles, and was influenced a lot by it. He enrolled in Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and when he was still a student, his talents become obvious. Until 1985, he bases his work in the Antwerp shop and announced a limited collection for the business. In 1986, as well as been seen as one of the “Antwerp Six”, he announces his men’s collection in London. In 1991 he did a Men’s prêt-a-porter show, and in 1993 he announces the women’s collection. While leaving the trace of tradition, he blends in classical yet original, simple taste to the clothes to set a new balance in it. Also, by using the traditional crafting method, he can express his passion fully, and that creates the one and only, unique style in the world.

1958年アントワープ生まれ。幼少期より家業のテキスタイルの世界に触れ、影響を受ける。アントワープロイヤルアカデミーアーツに入学し、在学中からその才能を発揮する。1985年までアントワープのショップを基盤として限定コレクションを発表し、ビジネス展開を図る。1986年“アントワープ６”として世界の注目を集めると同時にメンズコレクションをロンドンにて発表する。1991年パリでメンズプレタポルテのショーを行い、1993年にはレディースコレクションを発表する。伝統的な流れを残しながらシンプルかつ洗練、クラシカル且つオリジナルと相反するものを見事に取り入れ、微妙なバランス感を漂わせている。また、世界の伝統的な工芸方法をフューチャーした表情豊かなファブリックを用いる事で彼の情熱を表現し、更にレイヤードで完成されるスタイルには唯一無二の世界が構築される。
